Tourism Education in China : Status Quo and Future

Chinese tourism education has made some achievements such as scale effect of higher education, diversification of school level, variety of subordinations, multi-element of school-running patterns and much attention paid by government. Meanwhile, there are still some problems, mainly showed in the followings: training-objective is vague, training-model is obsolete, ideas of teaching not innovated, methods of teaching not advanced, quality of teachers not high and status of graduate employment not satisfying. Based on the summary and analysis of the course designs of tourism in the 69 universities with the major of tourism, the most popular courses are managing ones. Through the comparison of tourism education home and abroad, conclusions can be drew that Chinese tourism education is quite international in theory course and has some room to improve in application courses. At last, this paper gives some trends for tourism education development in China,i.e. establish a complete tourism discipline system, expand the research field oftourism education, deepen tourism education reform, strengthen the international cooperation, optimize the education system.
