Synthesis of porous magnetic Fe3O4/Fe@ZnO core–shell heterostructure with superior capability for water treatment

Abstract Core–shell structure nanomaterials have attracted great attention owing to their unique structure and promising applications in various fields. However, the effective synthesis of magnetic core@porous ZnO shell heterostructure still remains a significant challenge. In this paper, Fe 3 O 4 /Fe@ZnO core–shell heterostructure nanospheres with ferromagnetic behavior and high specific surface area were synthesized by calcining metal-organic framework templates. The maximum adsorption capacities of the adsorbents towards Pb(II) and MB are 163 and 40 mg g −1 , respectively. Successful access to high quality Fe 3 O 4 /Fe@ZnO core–shell heterostructure will make it possible for potential applications in wave absorption and other fields.
