Excess volumes of binary liquid mixtures of n-alkanols and cycloalkanols with n-alkanes and the theoretical treatment using the ERAS-model

1991
Abstract Molar excess volumes at 298.15 K were measured using batch dilatometers for binary mixtures of n-propanol, n-butanol, n-pentanol, and n-hexanol with n-octane, n-decane, and n-dodecane. The excess volumes decrease with the increase of -CH 2 -groups in n-alkanol, for a particular n-alkane. The molar excess volumes of these mixtures are attributed to a balance between chemical, physical, and structural effects. The so-called ERAS-model developed for the theoretical description of excess properties of alkanol + n-alkane mixtures (Heintz, 1985) has been applied to the linear alkanol + n-alkane systems as well as to cycloalkanol + n-alkane mixtures already studied experimentally in a previous paper by Kaur et al. (1989).
