Isolation Enhancement in Microstrip Patch Antenna Arrays

2020
Collinearly placed patch antenna arrays, printed on high permittivity dielectric substrates, suffer from an unwanted inter element coupling due to strong surface waves. A new shaped Defected Ground Structure (DGS) is proposed to suppress such waves in between elements. A low dimensional μ shaped DGS is carved out in between two E-plane patch antennas to reduce considerably the amount of coupled power and effectively improve return loss and impedance bandwidth of antenna elements. Parametric simulation results are analyzed and discussed.
