3P-390 : Natural deep eutectic solvents as a new extraction media for Catechin in green tea

2020
Due to the antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects of green tea's catechin ingredients, green tea is receiving attention in various fields, including health and beauty. Extraction of catechin in green tea usually uses hot water extraction, but it requires long extraction time, high temperatures and is likely to be contaminated by microbes. In this study, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) that are gaining attention in the field of eco-friendly extraction were synthesized, and EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) was extracted from green tea and confirmed by TLC and HPLC analysis. As a result, NADES extraction shows similar or higher efficiency in EGCG content compared to hot water extraction.
