The invention discloses a furan resin for casting and a preparation method thereof. The furan resin for casting has the formula proportion in parts by weight: 27 to 35 parts of formaldehyde, 40 to 50 parts of furfuryl alcohol, 8 to 12 parts of urea, 0.1 to 0.5 part of urotropin, 1 to 3 parts of ammonia solution, 5 to 10 parts of methanol, 0.1 to 0.8 part of coupling auxiliary agents, 5 to 15 parts of furfuryl alcohol substitutes and 0.1 to 0.5 part of formic acid, wherein the furfuryl alcohol substitutes are sorbitol, polyester polyol, or the mixture of the sorbitol and the polyester polyol. The preparation method comprises the steps of feeding, warming, three-time vacuum dewatering, dropping in temperature to mix, filtering and discharging and the like. Under the action of factors, such as the compounding ratio of charged raw materials, pH value, temperature, feeding mode, dehydration mode and the like, parts of furfuryl alcohol in the prior art are substituted, and under the circumstance that other performance parameters of the furan resin for casting are not sacrificed, the cost is effectively reduced.
