Photoluminescence transparent ceramic with adjustable spectrum for high-color rendering laser lighting

Laser diode (LD) lighting is highly luminescent and safe due to the institution of traditional wires with optical fiber, suitable to museum lighting. However, the current LD lighting has a low color rendering index (CRI) to affect the visual splendor because of lack of red component in the spectra of the photoluminescence transparent ceramic (TC). In this study, a series of Lu2.98Al5-xO12:0.02Ce3+, xMn2+ (x = 0-0.12) photoluminescence TCs with the transmittance T = 48.5-78% and spectrum adjustable from 500 to 800 nm are synthesized, which show excellent thermal stability. Its photoluminescence property remains 99% of the initial value at 425 K when the doping of Mn2+ x = 0.01. The color rendering index (CRI) of LD system assembled with these photoluminescence TCs and high-power blue LD reached 80.1, while the correlated-color temperature (CCT) is 3298 K. This finding shows promising applications in museum lighting.
