Developing demonstration GSSHA and GS-FLOW models for Upper Susquehanna

The National Weather Service (NWS) is examining opportunities for expanded services utilizing the under-construction Water Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Riverside Technology, inc. is supporting the NWS by exploring the requirements for developing distributed models for long- range forecasting in the Upper Susquehanna watershed. The GSSHA and GS-FLOW models have been examined in particular and initial demonstration models have been prepared using data asso- ciated with the June 2006 flooding event. Initial results demonstrate the significance of selecting an appropriate source of precipitation information.
