Becoming the Green-Blue City

2014
Long dependent on imported sources to meet its water needs, the City of Los Angeles is moving to refashion how it manages water in all of its forms. In this “one water” approach, the city aims to unify its efforts to provide drinking water, wastewater treatment, and storm-water management in the hopes of realizing multiple objectives and benefits simultaneously. In so doing, the most populous city in the state of California intends to increase local water supplies, decrease its reliance on imported water, reduce pollutant loads to local waterways, minimize localized flooding, mitigate climate change, and provide parks, habitat, and other amenities to the public. In this way, Los Angeles is seeking to become the “Green-Blue City.”
