A REPORT ON CLINICAL PREVALENCE OF DISEASES AND DISORDERS IN CATTLE AND GOAT AT THE UPAZILLA VETERINARY HOSPITAL, ULIPUR, KURIGRAM

An investigation was undertaken to determine the general clinical prevalence and comparative prevalence of diseases and disorders in cattle and goats at the Upazilla Veterinary Hospital (UVH), Ulipur under Kurigram district during mid October to mid December, 2008. Total animals were 463, among them cattle were 348 and goats were 115. Diagnosis on the basis of general examination, physical examination clinical examination, mycroscopic examination and using common laboratory techniques. Clinical examinations detected 17 different types of diseases and disorders in 348 (75.16% of total animals) cattle. Whereas fever 27 (7.76%), digestive disorders 40 (11.5%), respiratory disorders 21 (6.03%), skin disease 23 (6.6%), foot & mouth disease 125 (35.92%), dysentery 5 (1.44%), black quarter 2 (0.57%), papillomatosis 16 (4.5%), clinical mastitis 4 (1.14%), uterine prolapse 2 (0.57%), Humpsore 10 (2.87%), repeat breeding 4 (1.14), anaestrus 5 (1.44%), fascioliasis 47 (13.51%), paramphistomiasis 5 (1.44%), post castrational complications 1 (0.29%) and anorexia 11(3.16%) were recorded. Age wise prevalence in young and adult cattle were 115 (33.45%) & 233 (66.96%) respectively. Sex wise prevalence in male and female cattle were 160 (45.98%) and 188 (54.20%) respectively. In goat 115 (24.84% of total animal) 11 different types of digestive disorders such as fever 13 (11.30%), PPR 33 (28.69%), digestive disorders 10 (8.69%), respiratory disorders 8 (6.965), corneal opacity 9 (7.84%), fascioliasis 12 (10.44%), skin disease 11 (9.56%), arthritis 4 (3.48%), subcutaneous cyst 3 (2.61%), urolithiasis 5 (4.34%), and anorexia 7 (6.09%) were recorded. Age wise prevalence in young and adult goat were 36 (31.30%) &79 (68.7%) respectively. Sex wise prevalence in male and female goat were 46 (40%) & 69 (60%) respectively. Diseases and disorders of cattle and goats which were recorded more or less present in both young and adult animals but some of the specific diseases and disorders were in animals due to age susceptibility such as black quarter, coccidiosis in young cattle.
