Transient measurement of diesel engine emissions

2003
The increasing number of engine components that influences emission in general as well as the NOx particulates relationship leads to increasingly complex measuring parameters in the development of the Euro-IV and Euro-V diesel engine. The measuring task requires detailed analysis of the emission behavior over the entire measuring cycle. Due to its dynamic behavior and increased measurement resolution, the AVL 439 Opacimeter has proven to be an excellent tool for making quantitative statements about particulate emission in real-time operation over the test cycle in the development of Euro-IV diesel engines. This article describes the experiences made by AVL List GmbH in the measurement of transient particulate emissions on the engine and the chassis dyno and during driving tests.
