CHARACTERISTICS OF THIN WALL SUPERCONDUCTING SOLENOID MAGNETS AND ITS MODEL MAGNET TEST RESULTS

1982
Characteristics of thin wall superconducting solenoid magnets for colliding beam experiments in high energy physics are described. The existing and the planned solenoid magnets are described, and their technical problems are explained. A model magnet, one meter in diameter and one meter long, was constructed and excited up to 16 kG without an iron yoke, causing no quench. Its test results, especially the normal zone propagation speed, are explained.
