Role of Performance Measures in the Configuration Selection of Reconfigurable Manufacturing System

A reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS) is a state of the art that provides precise capacity and functionality when needed. Unpredictable demand, the need for a wide range of products, the rapid development of product, and process technologies force manufacturing systems to adapt effectively to changing needs. Performance measures are essential for enterprises to understand the current state of the manufacturing system and to take appropriate action to maintain the competitiveness of enterprises. This chapter introduces the performance measures like cost, reliability, machine utilization, and operational capability in RMS. This chapter focuses on finding the best configuration through performance measures for RMS.
