Epidemiologia dos cistos e tumores odontogênicos tratados sob anestesia geral, em um hospital filantrópico de Salvador: Bahia

Objetivo: A proposicao do presente trabalho foi analisar a frequencia relativa dos varios tipos histologicos de cistos e tumores odontogenicos benignos. Metodologia: por meio do estudo retrospectivo de prontuarios dos pacientes submetidos a tratamento no Hospital Santo Antonio - obras Sociais Irma Dulce, Salvador-BA, Brasil, sob anestesia geral, durante o periodo de 2004-2010. Foram avaliados: idade, genero, tipo histologico, sitio anatomico, tratamento realizado e recorrencia. Resultados: observaram-se 34 pacientes do genero feminino e 24 do genero masculino. o ameloblastoma (43%) foi o tipo histologico mais frequente, seguido do tumor odontogenico ceratocistico (26%), mixoma odontogenico (10%) e odontoma (9%). entre os cistos, o maior percentual foi de cisto paradentario (60%). A media de idade foi de 28,1 anos. A principal localizacao anatomica foi a mandibula em regiao posterior. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relative frequency of the various histologic types of odontogenic cysts and tumors. Methodology: A retrospective study was conducted based on the medical records of patients undergoing treatment at Hospital Santo Antonio - obras Sociais Irma Dulce, Salvador-BA, Brazil, under general anesthesia during the period 2004-2010. Age, gender, histological type, anatomic site, treatment performed and recurrence were evaluated. Results: The study comprised 58 patients (34 females and 24 males). Ameloblastoma (43%) was the most common histological type, followed by the keratocystic odontogenic tumor (26%), odontogenic myxoma (10%) and odontoma (9%). Among the cysts, the paradental cyst showed the highest percentage (60%). The mean age was 28.1 years. The main anatomical location was the posterior region of the mandible.
