The invention relates to a geogrid drain board vertical drainage system of a municipal water storage channel and a construction method thereof. The geogrid drain board vertical drainage system comprises a drain pipe, a geogrid drain board and a sand-gravel water filter layer, wherein the geogrid drain board is covered with geotechnical felt cloth and is fixed on the concrete structure sidewall of the channel; the sand-gravel water filter layer is arranged on the outer side of the geogrid drain board and covered with geotechnical cloth; the two ends of the drain pipe are communicated with the interiors of the channel and the geogrid drain board, respectively. The pressure of equilibrium water is low so that the pressure on the structure sidewall is reduced; at the same time, the solidification of soft soil is accelerated and structure sedimentation is avoided, and consequently, the structure safety is guaranteed. The geogrid drain board vertical drainage system of the municipal water storage channel also is capable of avoiding piling, convenient for construction, low in cost and the like.
