Choice of Optimal Radiation Energy in X-ray Flaw Detection

2006
1. We consider the problem of detecting interfaces between different materials in an arbitrary medium. The known data include the density of the probe beam of photons in a soft X-ray radiation, which is measured outside the medium. Thus, we study one of the problems of X-ray tomography, namely, that of X-ray flaw detection, in which the main task is detecting the presence of flaws, such as cracks, blisters, etc. The previous studies of these authors [1, 2] not only give a solution to this problem but also suggest an approach to the problem of selecting the best conditions for X-ray diagnostics. In this paper, in addition to the general setting of this optimization problem, we study its special case concerning the determination of source energies that ensure a high-quality reconstruction of the required interfaces.
