Implementation of a prototype embedded system for in-car multipoint temperature measuring

The core of this paper is an explicit, complete design and implementation of a custom prototyping embedded system PCB capable of multipoint temperature measurement, hazard detection and other functionalities given by the possibility of attaching additional hardware. The additional hardware are modular printed circuit boards (PCB) that are stackable onto the main prototype PCB in order to increase its functionality. In this way, a GPS and GSM board module together with a relay controlled speaker are connected to the prototype system. They are used to transform the in-car multipoint temperature measuring system into an IoT device accessible everywhere, capable of detecting movement, temperatures, fire and generate alarms in a hazard situation. It is designed to be used in automotive industry but also in home or industry automatization. Thanks to a reduced complexity and having a simple interface, people which are new to electronics and programming can use this prototype to put their own ideas in practice fast and easy. The embedded system is developed on an ATmega 2560 microcontroller and the temperature detection is achieved using AMG8834 sensor which has a two dimensional area with 8x8 (64) infrared pixels providing 64 individual temperature readings. The experimental results were obtained by developing the module and using it to monitor an environment through GSM connection.
