The generalized prurigo nodularis of the skin

2006
A case of the rare prurigo nodularis is reported in this study. Male patient aged 26 developed a large amount of solid nodules on the extension side of thighs with severe pruritus two years ago. The skin lesions gradually advanced to extremities and trunk. The situation grew worse with a rapid spread of lesions and enlargement of nodules twenty days before hospital visit. Some prurigo nodularis-like changes were found in the pathology examination of the lesions. Further immunopathological analysis demonstrated that the amount of S-100 stain positive dendritic cells significantly increased in the epidermis. In addition, the widespread infiltration of eosinophiles, the S-100 stain positive dendritic cells, nerve structures and some scattered mast cells with granules were easily seen in the dermis. Acid-fast staining assay found a large amount of acid-fast stain positive granules in the epidermis.
