Survival and Differentiation of Canine Mammary Tissues in the Hamster Cheek Pouch

The survival and differentiation of canine normal, atypical nodular (preneoplastic), and neoplastic mammary tissues were examined after transplantation to the cheek pouches of immunosuppressed female golden hamsters. Without immunosuppression, none of the mammary transplants survived 40 days of transplantation. With either prednisolone or antilymphocyte serum immunosuppression, 78% of the mammary transplants that were recovered from the cheek pouch survived at least 35 to 45 days.
