Agentes etiológicos con mayor incidencia en la meningitis bacteriana

2018
Meningitis is an infectious disease that worldwide reaches mortality rates of 50 to 70%; 1 out of 5 people do not receive timely treatment, developing permanent physical limitations. In Colombia, as reported by the National Public Health Surveillance System (SIVIGILA), in 2016 there were 847 confirmed cases of bacterial meningitis, of which the causative agent of highest prevalence is Mycobacterium Tuberculosis with 49.35% and with a 17.8 % by Streptococcus Pneumoniae. The clinical manifestations can be indistinguishable from the point of view of the specific microorganism, these depend on other associated factors such as age, geographical location, presence of underlying diseases, time of evolution of the symptoms, time at which the physical examination is performed. The objective of this research is to carry out a characterization of the etiological agents of higher incidence in bacterial meningitis.
