Robotic Urologic Surgery: Robotic-Assisted Adrenalectomy
2011
Since the first description of a minimally invasive technique for removal of the adrenal gland by Gagner in 1992 numerous refinements and alternatives to this technique have evolved including a retroperitoneoscopic approach and robotic-assisted adrenalectomy. Minimally invasive adrenalectomy has now become the standard of care for benign lesions, as well as instances of malignant lesions and has demonstrated a reduced morbidity, shorter hospital stays, and improved pain control over the conventional open techniques.
