Sesmic hazard and countermeasures in Sofia

Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is the major political, economic, scientific and transport centre of the country. The city is situated in a region of intensity IX MSK according to the new seismic prognostic map. In this report are discussed the seismicity, earthquake damage in the past, earthquake recording activity, typical building structures in the city of Sofia. Briefly are pointed out our experience in evaluation of seismic vulnerability in town area and seismic risk assessment of concrete gravity dams.
