The ovariectomy is used in the equine species for inhibiting the estrus, treating cysts, ovarian tumors, improving the animal´s performance and favoring the conviviality in group. In this procedure, it´s fundamental to perform the preventive hemostasy of the vessels from the ovarian pedicle to avoid the death of the animal due to hemorrhage. In this study, the efficacy of the nylon clamp was evaluated as an hemostatic method for ovariectomy in mares and the cost of the procedure was estimated, compared to the use of catgut and the emasculator. 18 equine females, without defined breed, clinically healthy, between 300 kg and 400 kg of corporal weight and between three and eight years of age were used.
