Entropy generation analysis for oscillatory flow in a vertical channel filled with porous medium

2016
Thermal systems are being encountered in nearly all the engineering fields like heat exchangers, energy storage systems, pumps and pipe networks etc. Entropy generation analysis based on second law of thermodynamics is thus a natural want for the optimization of thermodynamic efficiency of engineering flow configurations including those involving porous medium like the one which has been modeled in this paper. The study primarily investigates the entropy generation on oscillatory, radiative, dissipative flow in a vertical channel filled with porous medium. A long vertical channel consisting of stationary parallel plates of finite width, filled with porous medium is considered. One of the plates is isothermal while the other plate has an oscillating temperature. A double perturbation solution technique is used. The influence of important parameters on the entropy and Bejan number profiles have been analysed and discussed.
