Application Summary of Limit Analysis Theory in Geotechnical Engineering

Stability analysis is an important aspect in geotechnical engineering,with many analysis methods.Thereof limit analysis theory is an effective stability analysis method,which can define collapse load clearly without carrying out elastic plasticity analysis progressively.Its theorem includes upper bound theorem and lower bound theorem,hence able to seek for the precise solution between upper bound and lower bound.This paper describes the development of limit analysis theory and its application in solving the typical problems of tunnel and slope stability,introduces the common calculation method for limit analysis theory,and finally gives a description of the major defects in using classical limit analysis theory.
