Análisis fractal de la precipitación anual en el este de la Provincia de La Pampa, Argentina

2009
Eastern La Pampa Province (Argentina) is located in the transition band between the south-western area of the Pampa Region, where the Intergovernmental Panel Climatic Change (IPCC) official document projects a decrease in the rainfalls between 10 to 20%, and the north-eastern area, where an increase between 10 to 20% is projected. With the purpose of determining in which of the two trends the Eastern La Pampa Province (Argentina) is included, the fractal dimension of 10 series of annual rainfall of the zone was studied by applying the Hurst coefficient (H), in order to determine their degree of persistence, and the significance and sign of the observed trends were evaluated by means of the Mann Kendall test. The results confirm that the annual rainfall in the Eastern La Pampa Province (Argentina) can be characterized by means of his fractal dimension, reaching values of fractal dimension D near to 1, which corroborate a high level of persistence. The positive statistically significant to very significant trends exhibited by all localities indicate that the regime of rainfalls of the zone observed an increase within the analyzed period, allowing the conclusion that Eastern La Pampa Province is included in the north-eastern area foreseen by the IPCC.
