Die Bedeutung der 87mSr-Szintigraphie für die Erkennung der Tumorverbreitung maligner Prozesse des kleinen Beckens

1973
A single and simple examination - 87mSr scintigraphy - may yield considerable information concerning the extent of malignant tumors in the pelvis: a) it reveals bone involvement, if present, b) in certain cases, the primary tumor or its extention in the pelvis may be positively visualized, even if located extra-osseously, and c) ureteral strangulation caused by the tumor and subsequent hydronephrosis may be also revealed, since in such an event an area of increased radioactivity may be observed over the renal region. The first point, i.e. the value of 87mSr scintigraphy, in the diagnosis of primary or metastatic bone tumors, is already established and the method is in routine use. However, the other two points, i.e. the possibility of visualizing extraosseous tumors and also the possibility of demonstrating ureteral strangulation have not been adequately emphasized in the literature. The above points have been illustrated by the presentation of three representive cases.
