TRAVINFO: A PROGRESS REPORT

TravInfo, the San Francisco Bay Area advanced traveler information system (ATIS), was one of 16 field operational tests (FOTs) selected for fiscal year 1993 funding by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and was the first of those to complete Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) contract negotiations and officially to begin work. The TravInfo transportation information center (TIC) will disseminate the information through phone lines and open broadcasts. The private sector will provide products and services that present the information to both public and private sector users in convenient and affordable forms. This paper provides a progress report on the TravInfo project, including its organization, plan, schedule, implementation experience, and evaluation approach.
