Simplified quantitative determination of total fecal bile acids

Abstract To determine total fecal bile acids, these are extracted with diethyl ether after boiling with a solution of potassium hydroxide in ethanediol. After evaporating the ether and dissolving the residue in methanol, the bile acids are directly determined with 3α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Values for 9 normals are given.
