Staff Sgt. Seth Greer is the first New Jersey Army national Guardsman to wear the "Smokey the Bear" hat of an drill sergeant. New enlistees to the New Jersey Army National Guard meet Greer as they report to the Recruit Sustainment Program at the National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt. The once-a-month program exists to prepare new recruits to ship off for eight weeks of basic training at an out-of-state military installation.
