Enigmas and insights in the oxybiology of high altitude

Aad Berkenbosch and I are near the end of long careers in respiratory physiology, in which we both have puzzled over some of the unknowns and mysteries of oxy-biology. It seems of use as well as interest to examine these areas in which the next generation may find fertile ground for their research and application of so many new skills and methods, even if, to do so, we need to look so far back in our own experiences as to suggest total obsolescence in what we say.
