Hospital-based analysis on injury in Changshan county, 2004-2008.

Objective To explore the characteristics of injuries in Changshan county,and to provide scientific basis for injury intervention.Methods Based on the National Injury Surveillance Guideline,Changshan county established an injury surveillance system that included 3 hospitals in the area.Information of injuries was collected and analyzed for the first hospital visit.Results A total of 48 143 cases were reported by injury surveillance system from 2004 to 2008.The ratio of male to female with injury was 2.24∶1.Most injuries occurred in August.More than half(51.69%)of the patients were farmers and fishermen.The most frequent occurrences of the injuries were on road(29.58%),on workplace(29.42%)and at home(25.10%).The most frequently reported reasons of injuries were fall(30.35%),traffic accident(21.20%)and blunt trauma(18.12%).The top 3 types of injuries were superficial injury,fracture and open wounds.Conclusion Farmers and fishermen should be selected for decreasing injuries in Changshan county.Intervention measures should be taken in avoiding road accidents,work related blunt trauma injuries,especially in fall season.
