Tumor Immunology, Immunotherapy and Its Application to Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC)

Tumor immunology is a rapidly developing field and continues to expand with further understanding of the interplay between tumor cells and the immune system. The recent introduction of immunomodulatory agents into the treatment armamentarium for oncology has offered benefits to patients that previously had no therapeutic options. Understanding of the immune system during health and the response that occurs with diseases, such as infection, provided the basis for what is now known about how the immune system responds to developing and established tumors.
