Isolation of two rare aqua-bridged zigzag copper(II) coordination polymers: Syntheses, characterization and X-ray structures of [Cu(2-bromobenzoate)2(β/γ-picoline)2(μ-H2O)]n

Abstract Reaction of copper(II) 2-bromobenzoate with β/γ-picoline in methanol–water mixture (4:1 v/v) yielded two isostructural aqua bridged linear polymers [Cu(2-bromobenzoate) 2 (β-picoline) 2 (μ-H 2 O)] n ; 1 and [Cu(2-bromobenzoate) 2 (γ-picoline) 2 (μ-H 2 O)] n ; 2 which belong to a rare class. The newly synthesized complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV–Vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray structure determination. Both complexes crystallized in triclinic space group, P 1 ¯ . X-ray structure determination revealed the presence of 1-dimensional chains of constituent molecules running along a -axis. Empty channels have been observed between the linear chains of complexes. Non-covalent interactions like O H⋯O, C H⋯O and C H⋯π have been observed which play a decisive role in the stabilization of crystal lattice in both complexes 1 and 2 .
