On the Loss of Culture with Chinese Characteristics in Chapter One of the English Version of San Guo Yan Yi by C.H.Brewitt-Taylor

This paper attempts to make a comparative study of the translation of Chapter One in the two English versions of San Guo Yan Yi,one by C.H.Brewitt-Taylor and the other by Moss Roberts.It is found that omission,vague translation and false translation of Chinese culture-loaded words,as well as the loss of the stylistics exist in the English version of San Guo Yan Yi by Moss Roberts.Then,the writer gives some advice on the translation of several Chinese culture-loaded words.Finally,the writer proposes that as for the translation of the culture with Chinese characteristics,the translating strategy of foreignization should be taken as priority.
