Research Advances in the Secondary Growth-associated MYB Transcription Factors in Plants

2012
Secondary xylem of trees is an important renewable resource and has great significance in human's production and life.As one of the largest plant transcription factor families,MYB transcription factors play an important role in the transcriptional regulation of secondary cell wall biosynthesis.Till now many key secondary wall-associated MYB transcription factors have been identified and characterized.AC elements are important for MYB transcription factors binding to the promoters of lignin biosynthesis genes. In this article,we reviewed the structure and evolution of MYB transcription factors, and then introduced how transcriptional activators and repressors modulate secondary wall biosynthesis;at last discussed the post-transcriptional modification, evolutionary conservation and transcriptional network of MYB transcription factors.
