The expression of microRNA-200a and its clinical significance in hepatic cancer tissues

2014
Objective To determine the expression of microRNA-200a (miR-200a) in hepatic cancer tissues and its clinical significance. Methods The levels of expression of miR-200a in hepatic cancer cell lines, and in 58 cases of hepatic cancer and their adjacent normal liver tissues were detected by real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).The relations of the levels of miR-200a expression with clinicopathologic features were analyzed. Results RT-PCR revealed that the expression of miR-200a was down regulated in hepatic cancer cell lines and hepatic cancer tissues. The expression of miR200a was associated with tumor invasiveness and metastasis in patients with hepatic cancer. The expression of miR-200a in patients with tumor invasiveness and metastasis was significantly lower than those without (P < 0.05).There was no significant difference with regard to sex, age, hepatitis status, tumor size,TNM staging and the level of AFP (all P > 0.05).Conclusion The expression of miR-200a was downregulated in hepatic cancer tissue. There was a significant relation to tumor invasiveness and metastasis.
