Hydrogen Production from a Large Digester Gas

2008
The technical features of a large (300 - 500kW) anaerobic digester (AD) plant operating on recycled organic waste are presented. The plant is located on the remote Hebridean island of Lewis off the west coast of Scotland. Excess electrical production from the AD plant's biogas engine will be used by the Hebridean Hydrogen Park currently under development for the generation of hydrogen through water electrolysis. The hydrogen in turn will be used to provide fuel for a transport fleet of hydrogen internal combustion engine or fuel cell vehicles on the island. Results of modeling carried out on the digester and electrolyser are presented and an up-date on current progress is presented.
