Analysis and optimized equalizer design for threshold-like detectors for d=1 optical recording channels

This paper provides an analysis for the threshold detector (TD) and run detector (RD). The analysis is used to create a new criteria for the equalizer design. A novel post-processing scheme for the TD, coined the maximum likelihood TD (MLTD), is also proposed, which is able to achieve near Viterbi-like performance.
