ADAPTING ADVANCED TRAFFIC INFORMATION PROVISION TO ROAD USER NEEDS IN TRAVEL-GUIDE - A PROGRESS REPORT

2001
Due to the increasing demands on the capacity of the traffic network, optimized travel and traffic information is becoming more important. Accurate and timely traffic information can decrease travel times and costs. However, a side-effect of new methods of traffic information provision is the growing amount of information road users have to process. Every new information source adds to an already high information load on drivers, thereby possibly counteracting potential benefits. In order to prevent traffic safety reductions, it is imperative to adapt traffic information to the needs of different driver groups and the requirements and preferences of the individual road user. Only in this way can information overload on drivers be avoided. In addition, system developers and service providers considering the variability of the road user population will gain new opportunities to create products designed for specific consumer clusters.
