Systemic psychotherapy in prison

2012
This chapter examines the use of systemic psychotherapy in prison. The chapter begins by outlining the development of the practice of systemic and family psychotherapy from the 1950s to the present day. It provides a brief overview of the literature on systemic practice in prisons and forensic mental health settings. The chapter describes a number of key systemic concepts underpinning the author’s practice with young people in prison and ends by presenting a case vignette demonstrating the application of these concepts.
