In this paper, I first discuss the odd behaviors of Richard III in Shakespeare’s historical play Richard III and show how such behaviors are related to the antisocial behaviors of psychopaths or sociopaths. Second, melancholic moods of depression are explored through the comedy the Merchant of Venice, the historical play Richard II, and the tragedy Hamlet, and I show what is going on in our brains when suffering from depression. Third, I examine the abnormal behaviors of the cardinal Wolsey in the historical play Henry VI and look at how such behaviors are relevant to Parkinson’s disease or Huntington’s disease. Finally, I discuss the mad behaviors of King Lear in the historical play King Lear, and show how such madness is related with the modern day schizophrenia.
