Primary Colorectal Nasal-Type Natural Killer/T-Cell Lymphoma: Report of a Case

2011
Primary colorectal lymphoma (PCL) is rarely seen and accounts for only 0.2%-0.6% of malignancies of the large intestine [1]. Extranodal natural killer (NK) cell/T-cell lymphoma is a highly aggressive Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated tumor that is extremely rare in the colon and rectum. When it occurs, it usually presents with intestinal perforation [2]. We describe the case of an elderly diabetic man with primary extranodal nasal-type NK cell/T-cell lymphoma of the cecum that had colonoscopic and pathological features that mimicked ulcerative colitis. The overlap in morphology of the two conditions may lead to misdiagnosis in some patients.
