Mechanical connection for panels having the following features: a. The panels 1, 2 have a horizontal connection, and a vertical connection at their joined together edge sides 5, 10, wherein the first to be laid first panel 1 which is subsequently to be laid, the second panel 2 engages under the horizontal latch and wherein the vertical lock on the first panel 1 locking edge 8 and a spring 6 arranged on the second panel 2, which is displaced behind the lock edge 8; b. The spring 6 has a arranged in a retaining groove 7 feet 16 and at least partially protruding from the retaining groove 7 head 17, which is pivotally connected to the foot 16, the head 17 has a side facing the upper surface 4 of the second panel 2 lock arm 19 for pivoting behind the locking edge 8 and a side facing the bottom 3 of the second panel 2 lever 20 for pivoting the lock arm 19, said head 17 is connected in a region between locking arm 19 and lever 20 to the foot 16, and wherein a free lower end of the lever 20 is spaced from the second panel 2 prior to depositing the second panel 2 and a free, upper end of the locking arm is in contact with the second panel 2 19; c. The first panel 1 has a guide surface with which the lever 20 when depositing is engageable in order in the direction of the second panel 2 to pivot the lever 20 about the hinge 18 and by means of the lever 20, the upper end of the locking arm 19 away from the second to relocate panel 2 behind the locking edge. 8
