Transition metal compounds of chlorophenols: synthesis, characterization and single-crystal X-ray structures of (N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyl-ethylenediamine)bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenolato)cobalt(II) and bis(N-methylimidazole)bis(2,6-dichlorophenolato)copper(II)

Abstract The single-crystal X-ray structures of a cobalt(II) compound and of a copper(II) compound with chlorophenolates as anions show that the aromatic chlorides participate in the coordination of the metal ion. The respective chromophores Co[N 2cis O 2trans Cl 2cis ] and Cu[N 2trans O 2trans Cl 2trans ] have distorted octahedral geometries in agreement with their ligand-field spectra.
