Declining sex ratio in Gujarat.

1995
Indias sex ratio shows that males outnumbered females in the total population since the beginning of the twentieth century. Masculinity of the enumerated population of India has been rising steadily since 1901 in India as a whole (see Table 1) and in most of the states. States deviating from this trend are: (1) Punjab where excess of males decreased after the initial jump between 1901-1911. (2) Kerala with an increasing excess of females; (3) Andhra Pradesh Gujarat and Rajasthan where the trend is not very distinct. Secondly in the North West the North and North-Eastern India including Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab Rajasthan Uttar Pradesh West Bengal and Assam the deficit of females is the most marked. Kerala is the only state having a sex ratio favourable for women in every census since 1901. (excerpt)
