Laser Scanning of Skeletal Pathological Conditions

2017
Abstract This chapter reviews the use of 3D laser scanning for human remains and in particular its application with pathological specimens. Practical experience gained through delivery of a number of high-profile digital bioarchaeology projects, such as Digitised Diseases and From Cemetery to Clinic , is discussed. An important principle sees 3D laser scanning applied as one approach as part of a toolkit of complementary methods that work at a variety of scales and overcome different challenges. The value of open access, and importance of attribution, and context are also discussed.
