Modest property tax increase uue in area

1993
Double takes will bc the order of the day when a number of property owners open up their property assessment notices in a few weeks. Shock will likely be the reaction when some realize rumors of double digit assessment hikes this year, following a statewide freeze in property values in 1992, have become reality. Elkland Township landowners, however, can count themselves among the fortunate. Towns h ip S uper v i sor Dave Milligan said residcntial assessments are expected to increase an average of 3 percent, while agriculture land will be up by a little over one percent. “They (county officials) wanted 6 1/2 on agriculture land, and I told them no way,” Milligan said. “In Elkland Township, we can’t even justify that. It should bc a little decrease.”
