Uso del suelo y su relación con los gastos sólidos en la cuenca V Aniversario y La Güira (río Cuyaguateje) Soil use and their relationship with the solid expenses in the watershed V Aniversario and La Güira (Cuyaguateje river)

2007
Erosion is one of the most significant forms of soil degradation, influenced to a large extent by land use. In this study, GIS Idrisis 32, Landsat 7 satellite images and RUSLE model were used to calculate the actual erosion rate and to examine its relation to the sediment discharge observed in the watershed V Aniversario and La Guira. Using the Maximum Likelihood and Minimum Distance to Mean classification methods a land use map was made. The map obtained by the Maximum Likelihood classification was used to determine the actual erosion by means of the model RUSLE. The actual erosion map showed that the regions with the highest erosion values are located on arable land, mainly in the intermountain valleys. It was also observed that a strong correlation exists between the estimated values by RUSLE and the sediment discharge data recorded at the hydrometric stations V Aniversario and La Guira. On the other hand, the model RUSLE overestimated the observed soil losses.
