Consumer involvement in research: reflections of a professional

This paper describes the shift in health- and social-care research from studies about consumers to collaborative research undertaken with consumers. This view is set in the wider context of consumer involvement, political will, professional power and dominance. Different ways of involving consumers in research and its advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
